This Week In Doctor Who - November 20, 1998
Happy 35th Anniversary, Doctor Who! Now come back with new episodes.
THIS WEEK IN DOCTOR WHO - November 20, 1998

On November 23rd, Doctor Who will turn 35. As it is temporarily .on hiatus' (snickering mixed with tears), all we can do is celebrate with what we have. On the TV front, a number of stations are doing special features this week (and some have plans for next weekend).
The best known celebrations, of course, are on the new digital channel in the UK, BBC Choice. If you are one of the few with the right digital equipment, there's 6 days of classic repeats to enjoy. You also can expect to make all kinds of new friends as other Whovians beg you to let them come over to watch the shows at your place. But remember to check out BBC Choice's schedule further down in this column. There have been a few changes since I first posted it. Most notably, the first 3 episodes of TombOfTheCybermen will not air ...
Australia's ABC network is celebrating the anniversary too. On November 25th at 11:05PM, they will rerun the 1996 movie. A broadcast that you don't need Cable to see. It's about time!
There's some concern that I may have been too optimistic regarding WXEL 42 in West Palm Beach, Florida. When they air the Doctor Who afternoon on November 29th, this does not mean that the series will necessarily return. They might resume carrying the series on a regular basis **if** they receive a sufficiently high amount of pledge support ***and*** they actually receive the money pledged. Doctor Who in South Florida is not a sure thing.
KRCB 22 in Rohnert Park, California and WFWA 39 in Fort Wayne, Indiana have not scheduled Doctor Who for the last 2 weeks of November, and have substituted other programming. No further information was available when the column went to print.
Whosaver (T J Lubinski) has requested that people not ask their local stations yet about the potential National Feed. At the time of this writing, the matter was still in the negotiations stage. Lubinski believes that making a big issue about this potential broadcast before the stations hear about it through regular channels could cause problems.
Note: If you are attending Visions 98 next weekend, you should be able to access this column online beginning Friday at about 6AM Chicago time. As usual, it will upload to news:rec.arts.drwho first. Http://www.dejanews.com/ will be able to access it from the newsgroup a bit later. The Alliance newsletter will not, to my knowledge, be publishing that week, so please use one of the other methods if you wish to read the column then.
If you have any comments or corrections, please contact me. This goes double if you know of a station anywhere adding or dropping the series. Even a one time broadcast, like WILL 12's airing of The Dæmons on October 31st, deserves a mention, and I sometimes miss these things. So, on to the schedules:

(House Judiciary Committee coverage over the next week may disrupt broadcasts on PBS stations. This will probably not affect Doctor Who airings, but be aware.)
The UK:
BBC Choice - digital station
"The Take" devotes its broadcasts this week to a celebration of Doctor Who. Sylvester McCoy hosts the links between programs. Special features are also expected to fill extra time in the broadcast.
